Team Ranking

It’s important in our Team Ranking process for you to be as honest about your team’s competitive level as possible. Our goal is to provide you with as many games as possible at the appropriate competitive level. You will use this criteria when asked to rank your team during the registration process.

The purpose of this sheet is for you to be as honest about your team’s competitive level as possible.

When games are scheduled, we try to schedule teams within a maximum of 3 points of your ranking. Typically, most games are scheduled within one points of your ranking.  So for example, if you rank yourself a 6, most of your games will be against teams ranked 5, 6, or 7.  However, depending on your conflicts, amount of games you are requesting, and amount of teams in your grade level, you could see games beyond those rankings as well.

Rank Description
10 We’re likely one of the top teams in our grade level.
9 We can play anyone. In order to have a competitive game we need to play teams in the 9-7 ranking range.
8 Our kids have several years experience and we expect to play against the top teams in the league. While we may struggle to go .500 playing against teams ranked 7-10 we’d likely be too much for most of the B division teams. Most of our kids are engaged in some basketball activity year round.
7 On a really good night when everyone is present and engaged we’ll be able to stay competitive against the top teams. We generally embrace playing against more experienced better skilled teams. We are either good enough defensively have some differentiating size or speed etc. putting us at the upper tier of the B division.
6 If you judge us by two or three of our players you’d think we’re an A division team but we lack the depth position by position to stack up against the top tier teams.
5 We have players who enjoy competition and embrace playing better teams. We lack the depth size or possibly speed to compete against teams in the A division. We generally play well together and consistently play hard. We are right in the middle of the B division.
4 We have players who have played a few years of basketball and we are starting to learn the nuances of how to attack different defenses. We have enough depth on our roster that we can freely substitute and stay reasonably competitive against most B division teams.
3 We have some athletes but lack basketball experience. We have one or two players who are starting to hold their own against stronger competition but as a team we will struggle against teams who play trapping zones or full court press. We lack the depth to compete regularly against solid B division teams. We will freely substitute but we won’t be as competitive when we do.
2 We are definitely a C team. Most of our kids have only one or two years experience. Our team is limited in important skill areas (ball handlers) and will struggle against teams who press and trap.
1 We are a brand new team learning the basic skills of basketball. We likely have one maybe two players who can handle the basketball. We only play in the winter season. Our kids have at best Rec level experience.
